ZCL is a wholly owned state enterprise of the Government of the Republic of Zambia, supervised by the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) based in Lusaka. The Company's current corporate Head Office and its main operating centre, Mukuba Depot, is located in Kurasini area, in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania next to the dockyard.

Essential job functions:

The Company is then looking for suitable candidates to fill in the open vacancy positions for the Freight Forwarding unit in our office located in Ndola, Zambia. The unit will be responsible to develop and implement strategies for efficient freight forwarding operations, oversee and manage the freight forwarding activities, ensuring that strategies are in place to guarantee the availability of financial resources for its core business and sustainability of new partnerships and collaborations.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Planning monthly transportation requirements at the regional level
• Ensuring that 90% of the required transport capacity is achieved
• Managing relationships with local and foreign transporters
• Ensuring that the company exceeds freight forwarding customer expectations
• Approving transport rates in line with the company policies
• Analyzing and informing Management about any potential demurrage or statutory penalties arising from the Freight Forwarding business
• Issuing weekly and monthly freight forwarding reports to Management
• Managing the freight forwarding team located in all the Zamcargo and logistics operating centres
• Contacting potential clients to establish rapport and set up business meetings to promote commercializable freight forwarding business for the company
• Assisting in developing business proposals, negotiating contracts, and acting as a direct contact point
• Participating in business development activities
• Ensuring that SOPs are prepared for all projects and making sure that the staff are following the laid down procedures

Required Qualifications And Work Experience:

• Holder of Bachelor Degree in Transport and Logistics from a recognized University
• Minimum of seven years of relevant professional experience in freight forwarding
• Deep understanding of the freight forwarding industry, including regulations, international trade laws, and customs procedures
• Strong leadership, technical competence and professional skills for timely implementation, coordination and management of activities
• Ability to work in a team, develop synergies and establish effective working relations
• Membership to Zambia Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport is an added advantage

Duties and Responsibilities:

• To plan daily and weekly transport capacity requirements
• Create long term business relationships with local and foreign transporters
• Source quality transport capacity for all freight corridors as required by the company's customers
• Ensure all the necessary requirements are met by all the booked transporters
• Send daily tracking reports to customers
• Monitor the performance of each transporter engaged by the company
• Manage end to end freight project activities
• Advise customers regarding all the required documentation for effective delivery

Required Qualifications And Work Experience:

• Diploma in Business Administration or Transport and Logistics or relevant Qualification
• Five years experience Understanding of required movement documentation on all regional corridors including neighbouring countries such like DRC, Mozambique.
• Additional qualification in customs clearing will be an added advantage
• Experience in freight forwarding is a must.
• Strong interpersonal and communications skills, resourcefulness, initiative, tact and ability to cope with any situation
